Oklahoma City’s Mama E’s to be featured soon on Food Network’s “DDD”

UPDATED 10:15 p.m. Monday, July 6.

Back in May, I blogged here about taking my family to Mama E’s Wings & Waffles, an Oklahoma City soul food restaurant, while the crew for the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” filmed there. My boys and I ate terrific catfish and fried ribs, met host/chef Guy Fieri and were interviewed for the program.

We were told it would be about six to eight weeks before Mama E’s turned up on the show, and from the looks of the “DDD” Web site, that episode is drawing nigh.

Mama E’s and Rick’s Press Room Grill and Bar in Meridian, Idaho, are listed as the restaurants that will be featured on Episode 613, titled “Legacies.” It is the next new episode on the list.

Presumably, that new episode will air at 9 p.m. Monday on Food Network. That’s just an estimate derived from the site, which isn’t exactly crystal clear on the subject. The Oklahoman’s TV Editor Penny Soldan tried to find out from someone at the Food Network if Monday is indeed the air date, but never got a clear answer. So, if the episode doesn’t air this Monday, I suppose it will air at a later date.

Still, I plan on tuning in to see the segment – and maybe see myself and my family on the show. (Since I typically make a point to catch the show on Monday nights, it won’t be like I’m going out of my way.)

UPDATE: It appears that Dora is correct, we will all just have to wait a bit longer to see Mama E’s – or any of the other Oklahoma restaurants recently filmed – on “DDD.” Both the episodes that aired tonight were re-runs. I will keep trying to find out when we might see our favorite Oklahoma eateries on the show. And now I’m hungry for Mama E’s fried catfish and Eischen’s fried chicken (the Okarche bar also was filmed back in spring).

The Mama E’s episode isn’t on the Food Network’s schedule any time soon. The July 6 episodes are re-runs: A Taste of Everywhere and Funky Joints, and the July 13 episodes are Better Than Ever and Their Own Way. The episodes for July 20 look like re-runs too.

And you’re right. The FN website isn’t exactly clear. I’ve seen last minute changes happen all the time! But the network will send a message out to Mama E’s when the air date is set in stone.
