Oklahoma City psych/prog/experimental pop quartet Stardeath & White Dwarfs has released its debut album, appropriately titled “The Birth,” today on Warner Bros. Records.

I just started listening to the disc, but so far, it’s living up to the band’s considerable promise. (For those of you who don’t know, the band’s frontman, Dennis Coyne, is the nephew of Oklahoma City musical mastermind Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.)

In the books department, Dean Koontz, one of my favorite authors, releases this week his latest thriller, “Relentless,” about a sociopathic book critic who tries to kill a best-selling author. I’m just getting started on that, too, and plan to post a review of it soon. (And though I am a book critic, I have no homicidal intentions at this point. But, hey, the week is still young.)

Koontz doesn’t do many interviews, but he recently allowed a USA Today reporter into his 24,000-square-foot Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired California dream home to talk about his childhood, his books and his dogs. Check out the story by clicking here.

Also, Clint Eastwood’s acclaimed hit movie “Gran Torino,” which features the actor/director/producer as a bigoted veteran who comes to the aid of a Hmong family who is targeted by gangs, is out on DVD this week.

Here is a list of new CDs, DVDs and books, from Amazon.com, VideoETA.com and BarnesandNoble.com:
