Last year’s blockbuster “Twilight” snatched up a leading five golden popcorn buckets at Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards.
The film version of Stephenie Meyer’s first book in her mega-popular vampire romance saga won best movie, best fight, best kiss, breakthrough male performance and female performance during what the Associated Press described as a “freewheeling and often-bleeped ceremony” at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.
“The fans are the ultimate driving force,” Stewart said while accepting her best female performance trophy, which she dropped on the floor, breaking off a chunk of the golden popcorn.
The “Twilight” vamps were thwarted in their efforts to make a clean sweep by “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus. Cyrus won the best song from a movie prize for “The Climb” from “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” which kept “Twilight” from sweeping all six categories for which the film adaptation was nominated.
In addition, MTV also premiered the first trailer from the highly anticipated “Twilight” sequel “New Moon” during the show.
Awards were decided by fan votes, and voters also showed their love for “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” Zac Efron won best male actor for his leading role in the third “HSM” movie, while Ashley Tisdale earned the breakthrough female prize for playing Sharpay in “HSM3.”
The new award for WTF Moment went to Amy Poehler’s peeing in the sink scene from the comedy “Baby Mama.”
As far as the show goes, “Borat” star Sacha Baron Cohen provided the weirdest moment of the evening when he descended from the ceiling dressed as his character “Bruno,” with white wings and white pants with exposed buttocks. He landed in the lap of Eminem with his mostly bare rump in the rapper’s face, which prompted Slim Shady to at least act offended and storm out.

I’m surprised that Ashley Tisdale is becoming her own solo artist. I think that she will make an incredible singer, she has the potential to launch off her experience with High School Musical.
