Oklahoma country music stars Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton are featured on the cover of the May 18 issue of Country Weekly magazine, on sale today.
“Carrie Underwood: Shaking up country!” is the main cover story, and Checotah’s favorite daughter is pictured with her two trophies from this spring’s Academy of Country Music Awards. The Oklahoma native was named top female vocalist and entertainer of the year at the April awards ceremony.
She was the first female act since 2000 to win the coveted entertainer of the year honor at the ACM Awards. “I’ve had a lot of good moments in the past four years,” she said after accepting her award. “This one takes the cake!”
The story chronicles Underwood’s career and reveals the secrets behind her superstardom. According to a news release, she has reached this point in her career through a combination of talent, hard work and humility.
“I owe everything to God and my fans,” she said after the ACM Awards.
The story also lists her No. 1 hits, beginning in 2006 with “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” According to a news release from her publicist, Underwood today notched 10 No. 1 hits from her first two albums, a record for a country artist.
The “always-colorful” Blake Shelton - as the Country Weekly news release describes him - also has a spot on the cover. He answers questions about life, career and relationships in a feature. He also talks about the luckiest moments in his life, the item he would never throw away and living out his childhood dream.
”I think this is what I wanted to do by the time I was 10,” he tells Country Weekly. “I love music.”
