“Grapes of Wrath” marks 70th anniversary

John Steinbeck’s novel “The Grapes of Wrath” turns 70 this year, and The Oklahoman and NewsOK marked the anniversary this week with a story, video and photo gallery.
The 1939 book is one of the most acclaimed and controversial – particularly in Oklahoma – in American literature. I believe it’s also a rather misunderstood book, and one that can be difficult to read for many number of reasons.
In Sallisaw, book remains a sore spot because though Steinbeck set it in the town, it was not actually affected by the Dust Bowl. But the misconception that Sallisaw was transformed into a dry and dusty land lingers.
Steinbeck won a Pulitzer Prize for the novel, which also spawned a popular 1940 movie that earned two Oscars.

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a great job with this. In addition, the blog loads super fast for me on Opera. Outstanding Blog!
