Video: Ed Kelley weighs in on Oklahoma rock song fuss
Ed Kelley, editor of The Oklahoman, whom I’m happy to proclaim my boss, eloquently derides the state House’s decision to vote down the measure to make The Flaming Lips song “Do You Realize??” the state’s official rock song in this NewsOK video.
He calls the Lips “the latest Oklahomans to be demonized” by the state House and criticizes the legislators who tried to override the public vote picking the song.
Don’t forget, Gov. Brad Henry will sign the executive order making “Do You Realize??” the state’s official rock song at 2 p.m. Tuesday during a public ceremony at the Oklahoma History Center,2401 N Laird.
Something tells me there will be large and potentially raucous crowd at the signing.

Mr Kelley, You said that the Oklahoma House was “Punishing diversity of thought, religion, politics and just about anything that doesn’t confirm to its narrow view of what Oklahoma ought to be.”
Please substitute Oklahoma House for Soviet and Oklahoma for Russia, and you describe what the Soviet Union was.
However, communism is still alive in many parts of the world. Throughout South America, socialism is growing and you have the liks of Hugo Chavez creep up (and his silencing of media, critics, etc). China’s communist party still uses the Hammer & Sickle for their flag.
You stated that communism is “long gone”, but I wonder if you would be saying the same thing had he wore a Swastika t-shirt, since the Third Reich is “long gone”.
I do agree that some things the Oklahoma House does many stupid things. I disagree with republicans on most social issues. However, their objections were justified in this situation.
Thanks
Robert
