Reba McEntire makes a splash on TV, online
Country star Reba McEntire is having a terrific spring.
The Oklahoma native not only hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, she also performed her new song “Strange.” She sounded terrific and looked incredibly lovely and youthful as she belted the groovy country song. (Check out this YouTube video of the performance.)
In addition, Reba is on the lineup for the June 6 concert that will open the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, which recently sold out in just an hour. The Arlington, Texas, show also will feature headliner George Strait, fellow Oklahoman Blake Shelton and Julianne Hough.
But her success isn’t limited to music or TV: Reba became an online phenomenon April 1. (It was a funny moment I initially missed when I was out sick but delightedly discovered after the fact.)
On April Fool’s Day, the country songbird took center stage in a huge gag on the comedy site FunnyorDie.com. The site claimed that it had been bought out by McEntire and converted to “Reba or Die.”
Along with a fake press release about the takeover, the site featured a variety of Reba videos, including a “Hee Haw” appearance, scenes from the comic-horror film “Tremors,” her 1988 wardrobe malfunction and more. You can see the videos by searching for “Reba” on FunnyorDie.com.
Here is the April Fool’s Day press release, which is still funny more than a week after April 1, and can still be found on FunnyorDie.com:
Funny or Die, the funniest place on the web, has gone country. Effective immediately, the site will be renamed Reba or Die.
“If you got to be bought out by someone, at least it’s Reba,” says former Funny or Die co-founder Will Ferrell.
“I have three loves; America, my family and viral internet videos. That’s why I have paid 350 million dollars of my own money to buy Funny or Die,” says McEntire.
Most of the site changes were implemented today. Funny or Die, which has offices in Palo Alto, CA and Hollywood, CA, offered its staff relocation packages that will cover moving expenses to Chockie, Oklahoma, birth place of Ms. McEntire and new head offices for Reba or Die.
