ACM Awards Continues

Montgomery Gentry performed One in Every Crowd, but my memory of it has been wiped clean by Carrie Underwood’s arrival onstage.  It wasn’t her performance as much as her huge ruby red dress which caused my brain some problems.  It was kept a secret for a reason apparently.  The curtains behind her had less fabric than her dress.  It did lead to host Reba McEntire’s best line of the night though.  She claimed she was going to wear the exact same dress.

Martina McBride then showed up to give Brad Paisley the awards for Top Male Vocalist, who received it via satellite since his wife was having their second baby.  Next up, Reba stops being the hostess long enough to perform a song for us.  Thank you, Reba.  It was wonderful, but I’m left wondering if she made a deal with the devil to look so unnaturally young and fit.

Dierks Bentley then presented the Top Female Vocalist to Carrie Underwood.  It’s a good thing she had changed out of that dress or she wouldn’t have been able to dash up to the stage to accept.

Up next was something a little different.  A Marine Lieutenant wounded in Iraq introduced Trace Adkins singing his song Til the Last Shot’s Fired with the West Point Glee Club.  The performance was in support of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), this year’s Lifting Lives selected charity.  Lifting Lives is the newly-rebranded but long-standing charitable arm of the Academy of Country Music, which works to improve lives through music.

Reba’s back in an improperly fitted orange dress to introduce Sugarland’s performance.  Jennifer Nettles is back in pants again, but this time I can hardly keep my eyes of the HUGE ring she is wearing.  It looks like a giant bug is attacking her finger!   After the performance, Reba presented her with a Crystal Milestone award for her achievement as a female songwriter.  Last year she became the first lone female songwriter to win Song of the Year in over thirty years.

Sugarland stayed on the stage to present Single of the Year to Trace Adkins.  His acceptance speech “Glad I’m an Idiot” is my favorite of the night so far. Adkins apparently didn’t think anybody else would relate to his hit You’re Gonna Miss This and never thought it would work as a single.
