ACM Awards Conclude

Host Reba McEntire introduced fellow Oklahoman Blake Shelton for his performance of his No. 1 hit She Wouldn’t Be Gone. But all I could do was wonder if this was where Tim McGraw was supposed to perform and how Blake got asked.

Finally, it was time for the big awards.  Reba presented Taylor Swift with the award for Album of the Year for her CD Fearless.  This was followed by Rascal Flatts’ performance of their new heartbreaker Here Comes Goodbye, and then actor Matthew McConaughey arrived on stage (and yes, he was wearing a shirt).  He told a very funny story about lying about making George Strait’s boots to score with women when he was younger.  Then he got around to presenting the big award of the night and the one the fans determined: Entertainer of the Year.

And the award went to Oklahoma girl Carrie Underwood.  She was in tears as she hugged her mom and then 2008 entertainer of the year winner Kenny Chesney when she won. In her speech she said, “I’ve had a lot of good moments in the past four years. This one takes the cake. Thank you God, thank you fans and thank you ACMs for nominating me in the first place. … I never expected to be nominated.”  In my favorite moment of the night, she then joked “I want to see those boots Matthew. Just kidding.”  She ended her speech by squealing and spinning around the stage.

Reba said good night and that just about did it for the ACM Awards.  This concludes my first awards coverage blog-a-thon, and hopefully it will be my last.  This is harder than it looks when you’re just reading it.  Besides, I’m sure everyone hopes BAM is back from sick leave in time for the next big awards extravaganza.

In the meantime, I hope I’m keeping you informed and entertained in her absence.  I will try and get a complete list of the winners posted soon and return to regularly scheduled posts tomorrow.
