First lady of country music Reba immediately threw the show to a big opening performance.  Oft-honored performers Brooks & Dunn were the heart of a medley of songs sung by Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Carrie Underwood, and Rascal Flatts.  Taylor Swift rocked a fringey number and Carrie looked beautiful in a one-armed filmy dress, but my favorite outfit was worn by Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, who wore pants.

After the performance, Reba introduced the Entertainer of the Year nominees (voting is still open at www.cbs.com).  Worth noting is the absence of nominee Brad Paisley who has an excellent excuse for missing the ceremony…his wife is having a baby.  Reba is on a roll with the pop culture references in her jokes, hitting topics like the Octomom, Michael Phelps’ pot photo, and the stimulus package.

Four-time Entertainer of the Year winner Kenny Chesney then performed and I see he dressed up for the occasion (sarcasm!).  Ghost Whisperer star Jennifer Love Hewitt, who I understand has sung herself on occasion, presented Song of the Year to Jamey Johnson for his song In Color
