Toby Keith shows off TK Steelman duds
Patriotic T-shirts, decorated bandanas under cowboy hats and, of course, sleeveless shirts were among the fashions modeled on the runway last week when Oklahoma country music star Toby Keith unveiled his new clothing line, TK Steelman.
Keith, 47, debuted his casual brand at a fashion show and launch party Feb. 18 at the Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill in Harrah’s hotel and casino in Las Vegas. The show coincided with the MAGIC Marketplace fashion trade event in Vegas.
The line also includes long-sleeve shirts, polos, sweatshirts, baseball caps, belts, leather wrist straps and more. Keith is known for removing the sleeves from his shirts, and the designers included more of that signature look at his request.
The Norman resident said at the show he also put a priority on developing great jeans for the brand.
“I have to be comfortable in my jeans,” he said. “They have to fit just right, not too baggy, so I worked the designers hard on that, and they did a great job I think on the jeans. I love them.”
The casual brand was developed in partnership with Royal Merchandising Group, which produces merchandise for Keith’s restaurant chain, according to a news release.
TK Steelman will offer moderately priced clothing reflecting the singer-songwriter’s personal style, which mixes country, rocker and biker influences. Each item was personally approved by Keith, who in fashion tradition appeared onstage with the models at the end of the show.
The Oklahoma native chose oilfield imagery for the brand’s logos and fonts, a tribute to his days as a roughneck, before he made music his fulltime job.
Keith’s spokeswoman said stores targeted to carry the line include Kohl’s, JCPenney, Macy’s and smaller chains. The clothes will be in stores in June.
TK Steelman jeans will retail for $75-$85. Woven shirts will be $45-$65. T-shirts will range from $24-$34 depending on the studs, embroidery or other embellishment on them, according to a price list from Keith’s spokeswoman.
Cowboy hats will average $45, ball caps $22 and beanies $12.
Other stars who were in Las Vegas last week representing clothing and accessory lines include Common, Jermaine Dupri, Charlie Sheen, Audrina Patridge (“The Hills”) and Russell Simmons, according to a MAGIC spokeswoman.

“New Moon” adds to cast
More casting news has come to light today for the upcoming “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”
Fangoria.com is reporting that Carrier Talent Management has announced that one of its clients, actor Bronson Pelletier, has joined the cast in “a lead role.”
Pelletier’s IMDB credits are limited, but Canadian audiences might recognize him from the show Renegadepress.com. He also appeared on the Discovery Channel series “Dinosapiens.”
According to Fangoria, Carrier Talent released the following statement: “Congratulations to Bronson who scores a lead role in the highly anticipated ‘Twilight’ feature film sequel ‘New Moon’. It’s rumored he will be co-starring with Dakota Fanning.”
It’s unclear the specific role Pelletier will be playing, but since his IMDB page lists him as a Plain Cree native, he probably will portray one of the werewolf cohorts of Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). He looks a bit like what I pictured in my head for young werewolf Seth Clearwater.
“New Moon,” the second book in Stephenie Meyer’s mega-popular “Twilight” series, again follows heroine Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who is left heartbroken after her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) leaves over concerns for her safety. Bella takes comfort in her friendship with family pal Jacob Black, a Quileute Indian who, along with other members of his tribe, turns out to be a werewolf.
“New Moon” is set for November release.

Isaak’s new album, “Mr. Lucky,” comes out today and features a duet with Yearwood on a remake of “Breaking Apart.” The song, which Isaak co-wrote with Diane Warren, originally was featured on Isaak’s 1998 album “Speak of the Devil.”
