Steve Martin as a presenter of best screenplay made me truly laugh!
Here’s his dead pan script with the help of his fellow presenter, Tina Fey.

Re Chelsea’s comment that the movies are the reason you watch the OSCARS.

Um…do you think that BAM’s blog is just something she does for fun? Look again. She’s an entertainment writer and this is part of her job. She pretty much has no choice about watching these awards shows, regardless of the movies.
So, part of the reason she hates the montages so much is that she is not allowed to change the channel like anybody else. It’s required viewing for her.

Yes, but too often, they weren’t montages of those movies, Chelsea. Too often the montages were taking up space and time with clips of “High School Musical 3,” “Space Chimps” and the latest “Rambo,” movies that were released in 2008 that even if you liked them, you have to acknowledge they were not Oscar worthy. So, why are we padding an already ridiculously long show with clips of movies that don’t deserve even a mention?

Not all montages are inherently evil, but the Oscars go so overboard with them, again, particularly showcasing movies that don’t deserve it, that it creates a kind of cynicism and burnout for them. It don’t think I would have a problem with montages if they were used only to highlight top films and big winners from the past and the current nominees, but they’re not and they haven’t been in the past several years.

I just saw Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branaugh and was sold. But IMDB describes it as “a period comedy about an illegal radio station in the North Sea in the 1960′s.” So, a great soundtrack is pretty much guaranteed as well.

I’ve heard great things about all of those 2009 films that you listed, and I was really intrigued by “Amelia” and “The Boat That Rocked.” Those are two that have been flying under my radar that look really promising.

Hey, BAM any scoop you can give us on the movies for 2009 they showed at the end? I know I’ve heard terrific things about “Up,” “Public Enemies,” and “Sherlock Holmes.” Not to mention “Harry Potter 6″ finally in theaters! What have you heard good things about?
