TK Steelman brand to reflect entertainer’s casual style
Oklahoma country music star Toby Keith is launching his own clothing line, TK Steelman, today at an event in Las Vegas.
The line of long-sleeve shirts, T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, jeans, cowboy hats, baseball caps, bandanas, belts, leather wrist straps and more will premiere today with a fashion show at the Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill at the Harrah’s hotel and casino in Vegas.
The debut coincides with the MAGIC Marketplace, a huge fashion trade event taking place in the city.
The casual brand was developed in partnership with Royal Merchandising Group, which produces merchandise for Keith’s restaurant chain, according to a news release.
TK Steelman will offer moderately priced clothing that reflects his personal style, which mixes country, rocker and biker influences. For instance, Keith requested the brand feature sleeveless shirts since he is well known for removing the sleeves from his own shirts. Each item was personally approved by the star.
Keith, who was born in Clinton, raised in Moore and lives in Norman, also pays tribute to his roughneck days with the brand. The line will use oilfield imagery in its logos and fonts. After high school graduation, Keith worked in the oilfields by day and played clubs on the side before making music his fulltime vocation; his late father also worked as a roughneck.
Keith told The Oklahoman in a 2008 interview that his personal style runs to jeans with pearl-snap shirts or T-shirts, reflecting Oklahoma City’s casual style.
“You get downtown, you can see it gets really urban downtown. You can see all kinds of styles. It’s not very European here. It’s pretty much just the Midwestern faded jeans and a pearl-snap or faded jeans and a T-shirt,” he said.
The brand’s initial launch will appeal to men ages 25 to 54. The entry-level line, intended for retailers like Kohl’s, Target, Wal-Mart and Macy’s, then will expand to women, according to the release.
