Oklahoma country luminary Reba McEntire and rising country star Jimmy Wayne are helping children discover the joy of reading through First Book, a charity that provides new books to children in need. The country performers’ involvement with the charity is detailed in the Feb. 23 issue of Country Weekly magazine, on sale now.

Founded in 1992, First Book has distributed more than 60 million free and low cost books in thousands of communities.

“I am a big reader myself, so I know how books can enrich your life,” McEntire tells the magazine. “I have been blessed to see so many children receive their first book.”

Wayne, who recently took time to read to some Nashville preschoolers, tells Country Weekly, “[First Book] inspires children to get interested in reading.”
