Friday Featured Track
The song that has been on my brain the most this week:
- “Better Believer,” Dierks Bentley, from his 2009 album “Feel That Fire.”
In his bio for the new album, Bentley, one of my favorite country artists, describes “Better Believer” this way: “It’s exactly the way I feel. It is as honest as I’ve ever been in a song.”
It’s exactly the way I feel, too. This country-rock track is simultaneously rousing and introspective. In the song, which Bentley, who co-penned with songwriter Rivers Rutherford, counts the blessings in his life and laments that he isn’t more grateful for them. And I definitely can relate to that.
Several of the songs on “Feel That Fire” immediately made it onto my iPod, but this one my be my favorite, if for no other reason than for reminding me to be thankful.
Check out the lyrics of the song, which I might just have to post on my wall or something:
Verse 1
Life is seen more clearly through our tears
‘Cause we all find some faith
When we face our fears
When my life’s going like I want
God becomes an afterthought
And I start trying to build my Heaven here
Chorus
A better believer would look to the skies
And shout “hallelujah” with tears in his eyes
Open his heart and start giving it all away
When I take a hard look at myself
And count my blessings I can’t but help
But wonder if there’s been some kind of mistake
This life of mine should belong to a better believer
Verse 2
All we really need in life is love
And in my time I’ve had more than enough
But some days I’m not satisfied
It happens to me every time
I look around instead of looking up
Chorus
Bridge
With all I’ve got to be thankful for
I should be doing so much more
I know
Chorus
-BAM
