Vanessa Hudgens unlikely to play Leah Clearwater in “New Moon”
Vanessa Hudgens
“High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens probably won’t play the part of Leah Clearwater in the “Twilight” sequel “New Moon,” People.com is reporting.
The reason is simple: Leah Clearwater isn’t set to appear until the third movie, “Eclipse.”
“Twilight” and “New Moon” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg weighed in on the subject at the 61st Annual Directors Guild of America Awards.
I reviewed my copy of “New Moon” today, and though Leah is introduced in Stephenie Meyer’s second book, it’s a brief introduction. A member of the Quileute Indian tribe, Leah plays more active role in the third and fourth books.
Rosenberg didn’t reveal any more details on whether Dakota Fanning has been officially inked for the part of evil vampire Jane. This is what she had to say about casting:
“Well, you know Taylor Lautner will be back as Jacob Black. I can tell you the original cast will all be coming back,” she said, according to People. “They’re on set right now in Vancouver. They’re all up there prepping the movie to start shooting very soon.”
Rosenberg did talk with People about director Chris Weitz taking over for “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke on the second film:
“[He] directed ‘The Golden Compass,’ which was a beautiful-looking film,” Rosenberg said. “And I think it’s wonderful we have someone who has worked with CGI animals … that will be a big part of ‘New Moon.’ I’m delighted we have someone who’s so expert at that.”

She should not play as Leah, she is too girly and Leah is supposed to be mean and cranky all the time.
