Heart starts 2009 on tour

Rock band Heart, whose Oklahoma City show last summer I mentioned in my column today as one of the live music highlights I experienced in 2008, will continue touring in the new year.

Heart capped off a banner year with a Billboard touring award, critical acclaim and even Christmas ringtones. More than thee decades after initially leaping into the rock music scene, they have scored numerous hit singles, sold millions of albums and earned high critical praise. Heart, the iconic rock band led by Ann and Nancy Wilson, continue to thrill audiences and prove themselves still very much in their creative prime with their latest U.S. tour kicking off in February.

In 2009, Heart will hit the studio to record what will be their 14th album in a most distinguished career, according to a news release. Heart are also gearing up to mark the 30th anniversary of their classic multi-platinum album “Dog & Butterfly” with special events and celebrations. They also continue to win new generations of fans with their No. 1 single “Barracuda,” being included in “Guitar Hero World Tour” and the new American Idol contestants paying tribute to their catalog of hits every season.

The media has acknowledged their wonderful performances from last summer, and my review from the band’s sold-out Zoo Amphitheatre show here in OKC is quoted in the release:

“Heart here reminded why so many grunge figures revere the Wilsons… It’s shameful they’re not in the Hall of Fame by now.”
- Orange Country Register – July 2008

“The ever-impressive Wilson sisters and their band proved they are second to none.”
- The Oklahoman – July 2008

“The honor of best would go to Heart’s Ann Wilson who despite over 30 years of touring and singing has not lost a thing.”
- The Salt Lake Tribune – July 2008

“Heart’s Nancy Wilson was the first to prove you don’t need a Y chromosome to absolutely wail on an axe.”
- SL Weekly – July 2008

“For more than 30 years, sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson have been rock stars of the first order.”
-Scripps News Service- August 2008
