Norman Music Festival 2009 set; Starlight Mints to perform
Starlight Mints
After the overwhelming success of the first Norman Music Festival this year, organizers already are hard at work planning the second incarnation for 2009.
The second annual festival will be Saturday, April 25, so unwrap those ’09 calendars and mark ‘em now. Once again, the event will be free and open to the public.
“This has created much community excitement and momentum, which bodes well for an even bigger and better 2009 event,” says Jonathan Fowler, Norman Music Festival committee president, said in a news release.
Appropriately, excellent Norman-based indie pop band Starlight Mints are the first band confirmed for the 2009 fest. The band will be supporting a new album that will be released next year.
The complete line-up for the festival will be released in early ’09, according to the release.
The festival is set in the historic three-block section of the Downtown Norman Arts District on Main Street, and the event will raise awareness for downtown business by showcasing both local talent and national artists.
“We also want to showcase Norman’s rich musical history and support our local artists by giving them the opportunity to play on a large stage with national talent,” Fowler said in the release.
This year, the festival was rock by more than 30 bands, including the Polyphonic Spree, Colourmusic and the reunited Chainsaw Kittens. The committee expects the number of bands to increase to more than 50 in 2009.
