Oklahoma country music star Toby Keith has announced the dates of his winter tour.

He will launch the winter leg of his “Biggest & Baddest Tour” Jan. 22 in Albany, N.Y. According to a news release, the leg will include 12 shows.

Jason Aldean is slated to open the first five dates on the tour’s winter run. The release only includes a few dates, but notes that more will be announced in the coming weeks. For more information, go to www.tobykeith.com.

The news release includes an interesting story about Keith, his hit “Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue” and Gen. James Jones, the newly appointed National Security Advisor. Here’s the story, directly from the release:

One Toby Keith fan who will probably be too busy in a new job to see many shows in ‘09 is the newly-appointed Obama administration National Security Advisor. Retired Marine General James Jones has a long history with the Oklahoma superstar, and played a hand in one of the biggest music stories of the millennium.

Gen. Jones was in the audience at Keith’s post Sept. 11 Pentagon performance for Marines about to deploy to Afghanistan. Toby played a song he had written as a morale booster for troops heading to the fight called “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American).” After the show, Jones encouraged Keith to record and release the song, saying it would be a great service to the military and the nation. Even though his next album release Unleashed was finished, Keith returned to the studio, cut the track and added it to the album.

Keith and Gen. Jones forged a friendship through that event, as well as the singer/songwriter’s many USO Tours to war zones in Afghanistan and Iraq. The two men undertook a 2006 good will tour of Africa together, and Toby selected Gen. Jones to induct him into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in May of 2007.
