Before she rises with the film adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer’s second book ”New Moon,” “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart will blast into the role of rocker Joan Jett, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade magazine is reporting that Stewart, 18, has been tapped to play Jett in writer-director Floria Sigismondi’s “The Runaways,” the musical biopic of the influential all-girl rock band.

Sigismondi is primarily known as a music video director; she has helmed videos for Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, The White Stripes, Christina Aguilera, The Cure, and Meyer favorite Muse. Sigismondi wrote the screenplay and will direct the biopic.

Though short-lived as a group, the 1970s band The Runaways were very influential because they were the first successful all-girl hard rock band. The band featured guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox.

Stewart is the only one that has been cast so far.

Right now, IMDB has “The Runaways” listed as a 2009 release and “New Moon” as a 2010 film.

“Twilight,” the movie version of Meyer’s mega-popular first book, has made more than $120 million since it opened Nov. 21. With the massive fan base for Meyer’s four-book saga, “New Moon” seems guaranteed to be another blockbuster.
