“Slumdog Millionaire” leads British Independent Film Awards
One of my favorite movies so far this year, director Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” won a leading three top prizes at the British Independent Film Awards in London, according to IMDB.com.
The film, about a poor Indian youth who goes on the country’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” not for money but for love, won the prestigious best film award. It also won best director for Boyle and best newcomer for star Dev Patel.
Another great film, “The Boy in Striped Pajamas,” a Holocaust drama told through the eyes of the young son of an SS officer, won a pair of awards: David Thewlis (“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”) won an outstanding contribution prize and Vera Farmiga (“The Departed”) earned the best actress title.
“Happy-Go-Lucky,” which I have yet to see, won best supporting actor and actress honors.
