Director Catherine Hardwicke making plans for “New Moon” – if she gets the job

“Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke is planning to get the film version of “New Moon,” the second of Stephenie Meyer’s four-book vampire romance saga, finished by the end of 2009 – if she gets the job of helming the sequel.
“Well, right now we’re trying to figure out if the studio people, and me, and everyone’s on the same page,” Hardwicke told MTV News in a story posted today. “I want to do (’New Moon’) better than we did ‘Twilight,’ and do it really cool. I definitely don’t want to do it as something just tossed off, like a ‘Saw II’ or something like that. We want to be sure that it’s really going to be great and that everyone’s on the same page.”
Hardwicke said she has a March/April timetable to start filming, again if she gets the job.
“I would say that the film could be finished by the end of 2009, if not the beginning of 2010; cameras could be rolling in about five months,” Hardwicke said. “We spent about a year and three months getting (’Twilight’) ready, between writing the script and casting. We could probably do things a little bit faster this time, but who knows? It depends. And sometimes you can do things really fast. You can get two editors on, and you can just zip through.”
Hardwicke said that she already has read the first version of the “New Moon” script penned by “Twilight” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg.
The director told MTV News that she already has come up with some “cool ideas” for the sequel, especially surrounding the transformation of Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) BFF Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) from an easygoing teenager to a massive werewolf.
She said in roundtable interviews at the “Twilight” junket last month in Beverly Hills, Calif., that “New Moon” will be much more complicated to make than “Twilight.”
“‘New Moon’ is much more expensive than the first book because there’s werewolf transformations, CGI, there’s stunts-jumping off cliffs, motorcycle rides. They go to Italy. So we have to make quite a lot of money on this one (”Twilight”) to be able,” she said.
“Twilight” made nearly $70 million its opening weekend – setting a record as the top debut for a film director. Though its take dropped sharply in its second weekend, it’s still closing in on the $120 million mark – not bad for a movie made for only $37 million.
All this makes me wonder why Hardwicke isn’t already signed on to direct “New Moon.”
Though Hardwicke told MTV News that she is hoping Lautner, 16, grows a bit more to portray the towering Jacob Black, it’s clear that time is somewhat limited to get the saga adapted.
The four books are set in a relatively narrow timeframe and the vampire hero, Edward Cullen (played by newly minted heartthrob Robert Pattinson), and his coven are supposed to be ageless. Summit can’t sit around dithering while Stewart, Pattinson and the rest of the cast ages.

Well I heard ther might be trouble with not having edward in the movie, and I had a suggestion about that. You can spend twenty to thirty minutes with just Bella mourning and that would be finr.
You can make the movie and still include Edward..like when he speaks to her when she “endangers” herself. And I think in the beginning, even before the mishap at the birthday party, they need to focus on the relationship between Edward and Bella. That was the biggest issue I had, you can feel, in the movie, that they have great feelings, but you need to understand more of that relationship.
I love all the ORIGINAL actors/actresses and really hope all the rumors about changing some characters is Fake because i LOVE the ORIGINAL! I am a huge twilight saga fan! i saw the movie the day it came out and the day after!!!!
I also finished the twilight saga novels!!!! I hope that midnight sun gets published!!!! i would buy it even though its been leeked I dont care!!!!
i think u should leave the actors how they r 4 real people dont go changing ne one n dont wait either b/c they CAN NOT age at all ok

Can they do a special effect like they did with Hagrid in Harry Potter?
The actor Robbie Coltrane is not very tall and he played a Giant. Maybe they can pull something like that with Taylor Lautner when Jacob gets taller.
I just hope they don’t change the cast!
Hey I have a suggestion for the new movie. I think that because Edward will be gone for a good part of the movie they should do partly of what he is doing why he is gone. Just a suggestion!
Catherine Hardwicke, Twilight was the best dang movie ever! I really hope the next one will be just as good or better! Please do good on this one. This one is going to be hard cuz Edwards appearance is gone but it should still be pretty good!
I would very much like to be an actor and i heard something about sending in a headshot and you can be an extra in the movie. I would hope this is true cause i would love more then anything to be in a movie, i would do it for for free if you gave me the option. I am constantly being told by my step dad that i am not good enough and i’ll never be able to make it to the “BIG TIME”, i want to prove him wrong. (this is not a sympathy story either) If you could just give me a chance i would do anything, i don’t even have to be in the movie, i could be the coffee girl, or anything, just to experience something from a feature film.
Plus….i absolutely loooooooooved Twilight, i was at the edge my seat like all the time and you did an amazing JOB!!!!
Taylor is perfect as Jacob. They don’t need to be 6′5 and looking 25 physically. That is a detail they can get rid of without killing the story line. NONE of the boys cast so far in the wolf pack are that tall. They’d have to replace them all in that case. I think that as long as the CGI effects are good renderings of the wolves, the fact that the boys don’t do the super puberty growth spurt will be fine to ditch.
My other suggestion is stay true to Edward’s disappearance. Bella should ONLY hear his voice when she remembers him. We shouldn’t see what he is up to because his absense is part of the dramatic effect that makes their reunion so amazing in the book. If we keep getting taken to other scenes of him, then we never feel that emptiness or the glory of reunion when we see him again in Italy.

i’m totally up 4 steven strait as the older jacob black just like amber said. i mean not only is he taller and more muscular but he even looks like taylor (a little). and also the book says that they turn into wolves so please watever u do don’t make then werwolves.

I think New moon and Eclipse or even Breaking dawn could be merged in a film . And I do hope that you should change some main actor such as Jacob . He has to be bigger and more handsome than it is in Twilight. I felt very disappointed on Jacob ( the actor ) .
So 1st of all i think you did an AMAZING job with Twilight especially with a low budget and fitting a 500pg book into 2hours so good job there.But i also felt like there could have been more scenes added from the book that showed how there relationship grew or how romantic and cute they were.Also if you have to change the actor Taylor Lautner that sucks cause he was cute but i hope New Moon happens fast before everyone starts to age =]
Also i would love to meet Robert Pattinson&Kristen Stewart even if its just for a minute because they seem really cool and deffinetly talented so if there’s any chance please let me know

I first would like to thank you for bring Twilight to the movies. I did like the movie. But all ways a but . I wish you would have kept Bella and Edwards conversation. The meadow is wear they did the falling in love. The soft works wear spoken to.Also the first time they touch the fear the bout wear going through to under stand each feelings,emotions.and condition. Pleas when you do New Moon pleas try to stay with the book,s as much a possible . Show everyone how the stayed in love or how much the love each other. Now i have to give you props for some of the things you added into the movie BUT! you should have put Blood type into the movie and took out something that didnt really need to be there. My fav character was jacob Because he stuck to his part and one major mistake that you made was that you made BILLY BLACK drive and in the book hes not supposed to be able to Remember jacob drives him everywhere and charley askes why hes driving he says ” we get are licence early on the REZ!!

first i agree with wendilynn-i think that they should keep Taylor and just give him the Hagrid effects if it is really necessary. Also, even though it isnt true to the books, I think that his hair should be cut. He is very good-looking otherwise and i think he needs to be i order to be a sorta-love interest.And please, do not make the into werewolves like in Harry Potter. For the love of god. They are giant wolves!
I also agree that Edward should disappear as he did in the books, so it is more dramatic. Of course Bella should still hear his voice and think of him.
Finally, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT COMBINE!!!!!!!! I was so mad when they did that for The Sisterhood of the Traveling pants. KEEP EACH BOOk SEPARATE IN THE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Far as Jacob Black….
If he isn’t going to be sprouting anytime soon, there is always a chance to bring in Steven Strait. He looks similar to Taylor Lautner, like him when he is older lol.
