“Twilight” makes pre-sale top 10 list
We’re mere hours from the initial midnight Friday screenings of “Twilight,” and the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book already has reached one milestone.
Online movie ticketing provider MovieTickets.com reports in a news release that the movie, which has sold out more than 1,100 performances at www.movietickets.com, has reached the No. 10 spot on its Top-10 Pre-Sale List of All Time.
The success of “Twilight” at the online box office has been largely due to a resurgent teen and tween demographic of veritable fangirls – a demographic that has turned out in droves this year, helping “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour” and “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” become two of MovieTickets.com Top-20 pre-sellers of all-time.
With 86 percent of moviegoers younger than 25 and 81 percent of females planning to see the film opening weekend, “Twilight” now sits alongside box office heavyweights such as “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter” and “Lord of the Rings” on the MovieTickets.com’s list.
Here’s MovieTickets.com’s Top 10 Pre-Sale List of All-Time, as of today:
1. “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”
2. “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”
3. “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”
4. “The Dark Knight”
5. “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert”
6. “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”
7. “The Matrix Reloaded”
8. “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”
9. “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones”
10. “Twilight”
“The pre-release buzz surrounding ‘Twilight’ and the subsequent record number of tickets being sold at MovieTickets.com clearly demonstrates and showcases the value and impact of online movie ticketing,” Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general manager for MovieTickets.com, said in the release. “This rush of early ticket purchases, especially among the youth demographic, is evidence that we will continue to see a steady shift in consumers using the Web to purchase their movie tickets.”
Don’t forget that I will have my review of “Twilight,” along with stories featuring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Stephenie Meyer and more, Friday here at BAM’s Blog.
