Kristen Stewart as Bella and Cam Gigandet as the ruthless vampire James in “Twilight.”

Cam Gigandet, who plays bad vampire James in the film version of “Twilight,” will star with Jena Malone (”The Ruins,” “Into the Wild”) in”Five Star Day,” an independent film written and being directed by Danny Buday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film follows a guy (Gigandet) who loses everything and must learn what’s most important in his life, according to the trade magazine. Malone gets the girlfriend role.

Will Yun Lee (”Bionic Woman”) will play Samuel, the smart best friend to Gigandet’s character.

In “Twilight,” which opens Friday and is expected to do boffo business, Gigandet plays James, a ruthless vampire who stalks the film’s heroine, Bella (Kristen Stewart). The film, like Stephenie Meyer’s wildly popular book series, centers on Bella, an awkward teenager who falls into a romance with Edward (Robert Pattinson), a “good” vampire whose coven hunts only animals instead of people.

Gigandet seems to be on a hot streak: Along with “Twilight,” he has about half a dozen upcoming projects listed on his IMDB page.

Among them, the 26-year-old actor has a role in “The Unborn,” a horror-thriller written and directed by David S. Goyer. He also recently wrapped the sci-fi film “Pandorum” with Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster.
