“Twilight” soundtrack tops charts

Last week, I promised that if I survived the CMA Awards, I would make it “Twilight” week here at BAM’s Blog. In the words of GlaDOS, “I’m still alive,” so brace yourselves for an entire week of posts related to the opening of “Twilight,” the film adaptation of the first book in Stephenie Meyer’s mega-best-selling vampire romance series, on Friday. (And I apologize for the random “Portal” reference, but ever since I learned “I’m Still Alive” on “Rock Band 2,” that song just hangs around in the back of my mind all the time.)

I’ll start by sharing some news about the “Twilight” soundtrack, which currently sits atop The Billboard 200, as well as Billboard’s Comprehensive Albums and Top Digital Albums charts.

The disc, which includes the music of Muse, Perry Farrell and personal fave Collective Soul,

The “Twilight” album knocked AC/DC’s white-hot “Black Ice” to No. 2. But don’t weep for Malcolm and Angus Young: “Black Ice” spent two weeks at No. 1 and has already exceeded 1 million in sales, according to MTV.com.

The “Twilight” soundtrack earned its No. 1 debut for this week by selling about 164,700 copies in its first week on store shelves, according to MTV. It’s the third film soundtrack to top this year’s Billboard albums chart, after summer’s “Mamma Mia” soundtrack and the “Juno” soundtrack, which was released in 2007, but reached the top spot in January.

Another soundtrack, “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” is in No. 3, after peaking at No. 2. Oklahoma City rock band Hinder’s sophomore album, “Take It to the Limit,” premieres at No. 4, after selling 81,400 units, according to the MTV story.

Hayley Williams, singer for Paramore, which contributed two songs to the “Twilight” soundtrack, also told MTV that she’s a big fan of Meyer’s saga and relates to the series’ heroine, Bella Swan. Read that story by clicking here.

Here’s the track listing for the CD. Note that Rob Pattinson, the newly minted swoon-inducing heartthrob who plays ultra-beautiful good vampire Edward, has a track on teh disc.

I received a copy of the soundtrack, and I’ll give it a listen and let you know how it is later this week.
