Trisha Yearwood records carol for “Heroes at Home”

Hearst Magazines has commissioned Oklahoma country music star Trisha Yearwood to record a new version of the holiday favorite “My Favorite Things” to support Sears’ Heroes at Home program.

Fans can visit www.sears.com to download the song for free and to learn what they can do to help deserving military families. I’ve already added it to my Christmas music collection; Yearwood’s rendition is wonderfully warm and lovely. (Yearwood lives in Owasso with her husband, fellow Oklahoma country star Garth Brooks.)

The Heroes at Home Wish Registry is similar to a bridal or baby registry. Through Dec. 25, Sears will feature stories from military families and what they’re wishing for on www.sears.com. America can help to fulfill these wishes through a donation either online or in-store, according to a news release.

Donations to the registry, which are not tax deductible, will be distributed as Sears gift cards equally to all registered families.

The Heroes at Home program provides support to service members, veterans and their families through joint efforts with various nonprofit organizations, including Rebuilding Together and the United Service Organization. The Heroes at Home program has helped hundreds of military families across America, and the Wish Registry continues Sears Holdings’ support of the men and women who serve our country.

This holiday season, the December issues of Hearst’s Cosmopolitan; House Beautiful; Good Housekeeping; Marie Claire; O, The Oprah Magazine; Popular Mechanics; and Redbook will help support Sears’ holiday mission. Hearst’s holiday program includes print units in each of the participating magazines, as well as online interactivity that drives traffic to www.sears.com for the opportunity to contribute to the Heroes at Home Wish Registry.

Each customized print unit features inspirational words from Wish Ambassadors – Yearwood, Ty Pennington, Samantha Harris, LL Cool J, Navi Rawat, Mel B., Lena Headey, Gloria Reuben, and representatives from the participating magazines – along with practical holiday gift guidance and products available at Sears stores and www.sears.com.

“This holiday program brings together people from a variety of industries to support a great cause,” said Michael Clinton, executive vice president, chief marketing officer and publishing director, Hearst Magazines, in the release. “We strongly support Sears’ mission to make military wishes come true and we are proud to help spread the word through Hearst’s magazines and Web sites.”
