College football weekend
The Cowboy defense buries Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin in last Saturday’s game. I’m wishing that was Texas’ Colt McCoy right now. That would be oh-so nice. (Photo by Sarah Phipps/The Oklahoman)
Cheer hard Cowboy fans. Maybe this is the year we will finally get the Longhorn off our backs.
My No. 7-ranked Oklahoma State football team will take on the No. 1-ranked University of Texas Longhorns at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Austin. (Those rankings from the AP college football poll.)
The game will be televised on ABC (KOCO-5 in Oklahoma City).
Texas has been the one team the ‘boys have been unable to beat during OSU’s resurgence of recent years. No matter how large the lead we’ve built – and there’s been more than one double-digit gap – the ‘horns have managed to come back and gore us. I’m hoping hard for a better outcome this year.
The No. 4 University of Oklahoma Sooners will play Kansas State at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. The game will air on FSN.
The No. 5-ranked University of Florida Gators, whom the McDonnell family has long cheered on to many victories, will take on Kentucky. The game will not be televised in the Oklahoma City area, but we will be with the Gators in spirit.
But most of our energies and affections will be channeled Saturday toward the Cowboys. Ride ‘em Cowboys, ride!
