All Hallow’s Eve scares up events across the state
From Friday’s Weekend Look section of The Oklahoman.
For fans of costume parties, trick or treating and jack o’ lanterns, this Halloween just might be a nightmare come true.
Oct. 31 falls on a Friday, a calendar quirk that means we can start early and get in not one but two weekends of fun, frights and festivities.
You can get a full rundown of Halloween events across Oklahoma at wimgo.com. But here’s a list of the horrid highlights that will scare up good times around the state over the next week or so.
Ghosties and goblins are haunting numerous Oklahoma City locales, including the Bricktown Haunted Warehouse, Frontier City’s Fright Fest, the Terror on 10th Street Haunted House and the Ultimate Terrors Haunted Houses.
Around the state, the Castle of Muskogee, Arbuckle Wilderness in Davis and Scream Country Haunted Forest near Drumright are just a few of the places to find spooks and specters.
If you think every holiday needs a parade, Oklahoma City’s alt-rockers extraordinaire the Flaming Lips will lead their March of 1000 Flaming Skeletons Saturday through Bricktown.
Looking to add some drama to your Halloween? Lyric Theatre is offering several performances of cult classic “The Rocky Horror Show” while Oklahoma City Theatre Company is investigating “The Hound of the Baskervilles.”
On Thursday in Norman, Cimarron Circuit Opera Company will stage the “Villains of the Opera,” while the Performing Arts Studio will feature old-time radio dramas in “A Scary Evening with the Second Stage Players.”
If a blood-curdling movie better fits your sinister schemes, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art will host the Oklahoma premiere of the independent horror film “Splinter” Thursday, with screenings through Nov. 1. The movie was shot on location in Oklahoma City.
Add some macabre music to your All Hallow’s Eve with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic’s “Hitchcock at the Movies” concert Oct. 31.
Also on Oct. 31, Tulsa’s Cain’s Ballroom will host the Guinness 34th Annual Freakers Ball with First Lady Assassins, Stevedore, Mariachi Tulsa and more.
For families seeking child-friendly fun outside the many pumpkin patches and fall festivals, the Paseo Arts District is planning its Magic Lantern Celebration for Sunday, while the Harn Homestead Museum is inviting families to “Haunt the Harn” Thursday.
If your kiddos want to add some wild and wooly creatures to your Halloween, check out the Oklahoma City Zoo’s 25th annual Haunt the Zoo, or the Tulsa Zoo’s HallowZOOeen.
However you get your Halloween thrills and chills, remember to make it a safe celebration.
