College football weekend

Despite the fact that I have three ranked teams to root for, the college football news isn’t so great at the McDonnell household this weekend.

That’s because I only get to watch one of the games.

My No. 8 Oklahoma State Cowboys play the Baylor Bears at 2 p.m. for homecoming. But the game isn’t televised and because of work and family obligations, I am unable to make the trip back to my alma mater for homecoming.

I’m really disappointed that there’s no TV for this game. Though Baylor tends to be the Big XII punching bag, the Bears seem better this year, and OSU is a whole lot of fun to watch with its high-powered offense and stalwart defense. Plus, OSU has what’s been called the nation’s biggest homecoming, so there’s lots of that great game-day hoopla that the TV networks love to shoot as B roll.

Instead, if you want to know if the Cowboys avoid the dreaded “trap game” (getting whipped by a team that’s not as good as you because you’re looking ahead to next week’s marquee matchup, in this case, Texas), and you can’t be there in person, you’ll have to tune into to radio station 96.1 KXXY.

The other Oklahoma team, the No. 4 University of Oklahoma Sooners, will see if they can bounce back from last week’s loss to Texas at 2:30 p.m. The Sooners will be at home versus the No. 16 Kansas Jayhawks. The game will be on ABC (KOCO-5 in Oklahoma City).

The traditional favorite team of the McDonnell clan, the No. 5 University of Florida Gators, are idle this week. They will play Kentucky on Oct. 25. (I had this wrong earlier today; I looked at the schedule wrong. So, I apologize for that.)

Be sure to root for your favorite team this weekend, especially if that team happens to be one listed here.
