Cowboy up!

There are no words to express the crazy-high level of my excitement.
It was a day of upsets in college football, but probably none was bigger than my No. 17-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys defeating the No. 3-ranked Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Mo.
This OSU victory has been huge news not just here in Oklahoma but also nationally, with one of ESPN’s commentators describing it as “a signature victory for (coach) Mike Gundy.” Another great ESPN quote: “Mike Gundy – he’s not just a man. He’s the man.” Well said.
There is a chance my Cowboys could be in the top 10 when the AP poll is released Sunday. Yes, I am feeling a crazy-high level of excitement.
I was watching the game tonight at my parents’ house, which is no where near Missouri, and I have a sore throat from screaming so loud. We were all just going nuts.
Though my parents’ house is just 45 miles from Norman, my husband, sister, brother-in-law and I all graduated from OSU, so we have a vested interest in the Cowboys. The OSU alma mater will be going through my head with great joy and relish for the next few days.
The final score was 28-23, and OSU managed to smother the Tigers’ normally high-powered offense, including snagging three interceptions from Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel, a finalist for last year’s Heisman Trophy.
And speaking of last year’s Heisman Trophy, the winner of that particular prize, Florida’s Tim Tebow led the No. 11 Gators to a total whipping of No. 4 LSU. The Gators beat former OSU coach Les Miles’ LSU squad by a whopping 30 points, 51-21.
The Gainesville, Fla., area is the home base for my husband’s extended family. I think I could hear his cousin Mikey hollering with excitement from here.
Unfortunately, the news isn’t all good for Oklahoma college football fans. Our condolences go out to the University of Oklahoma Sooners, who lost to hated rival Texas by the score of 45-35. No one ever likes to lose to Texas, especially in this state.
