The staff of the Zoo Amphitheatre released this week a thank you letter to everyone who supported last weekend’s big Alison Krauss-Robert Plant concert.

The show was moved to Oklahoma City after Hurricane Ike ravaged Houston. Organizers were only given a week to prepare and promote the show, but it was still a sell-out and, from what I’ve heard, an incredibly entertaining event. The entertainers decided to make it an Ike relief concert, and according to the letter, the event raised more than $100,000.

As Plant and Krauss sang on their CD “Raising Sand,” ”Please Read the Letter”:

To The Oklahoma Public,

PM Group/Innervisions/Zoo Amphitheatre would like to thank all the people of Oklahoma, the governor and his staff, The Thunder and their staff, all the participating media and the working crews for their help in supporting the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Concert featuring Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

Since the show took place last Friday, Sept. 26, we managed to raise over $100,000 for the victims of the Hurricane. The governor was gracious enough to lend his support by sending a letter of endorsement and by making an appearance at the show. Our local NBA team the Thunder were on hand as well to man the Feed The Children trucks, which were there to collect donations of food and clothing. Given the short amount of time we had to pull this off, we (all of you and us) pulled off a minor miracle in making this show work and making this show a success for the people hurt by hurricane Ike in the Gulf Coast.

It showed the spirit of coming together and it showed the spirit of Oklahoma. We as Oklahomans have had our share of disasters in the past as experienced by the Murrah bombing and disastrous weather as well. The people of Texas and surrounding markets have always come to our aid and we as friends and neighbors were not going to let them down.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were gracious performers and they sang from the heart and made the concert-going audience feel that more special for their help in this time of need. They played free of charge in order for us to be able to raise monies to and for the Gulf Coast Relief Fund.

By all accounts the show was a huge success in its ability to 1) have been pulled off in eight days, 2) in its ability to raise money for the unfortunate victims of the hurricane, 3) in its ability to bring great music to Oklahoma City and lastly in its ability to bring the people of Oklahoma together for a great cause.

We want to thank everyone for a job well done. We had a great opportunity to lend our help and support and as a team we embraced this project and put together a unified front in order to make this event successful and to allow all of us the opportunity to show how great a state we truly are.

Again, we want to thank all of you, the people of Oklahoma, the media, the governor, and our staff for the opportunity and for the chance to work together as a great unified team and also for the opportunity to work with such distinguished artists all together, for this great event, and for the ability to lend a helping hand to those in need. People are still wondering what they can do to help even more and the fund set up for this concert is still accepting donations. There have been several companies, organizations and people who have called us wanting to donate and you can through the following website http://www.ghcf.org/.

Once again, OKLAHOMA you are a great and compassionate state and should be applauded.

Sincerely,
Howard, Cesar (Pato), Beerley, Mary, Rory, Ricardo,Opal and all the staff at the Zoo Amphitheatre
