Last day to catch the Oklahoma State Fair

The Oklahoma State Fair LIVE! 2008 closes today at State Fair Park.

So, it’s your last chance this fall for you to check out the midway, ride the Ferris wheel and indulge in what surely (maybe I should say hopefully) is the widest array of deep-fried delicacies ever assembled in one spot. (Unless you plan to go later this month to the Tulsa State Fair, but that’s another event for another blog posting later on.)

Along with the usual attractions like the prize-winning livestock, craft displays and unbeatable people-watching opportunities, today’s special events include the final rounds of the PRCA Rodeo at 4 p.m. at Jim Norick State Fair Arena. A concert with country singer Neal McCoy will follow the rodeo action.

In the grandstand, the Freestyle Cage Fighting Night of Champions starts at 2 p.m. (This is a new day and time for this ticketed event, which was delayed because of the potential for stormy weather last weekend.)

Unfortunately, the free concert with classic rockers Eric Burdon and the Animals set for today at the Toyota Stage has been canceled. According to a news release, Burdon’s management cited health concerns that would making traveling and performing ill-advised.

Taking the Animals’ 3 p.m. showtime at the Toyota Stage: Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals. Back in the 1960s Cavaliere sang for the group the Young Rascals, which scored the hits “Good Lovin’,” “Groovin’,” “A Girl Like You,” ” A Beautiful Morning,” and “People Got to Be Free.”
