See nature on the big screen at museum’s Film Fest
“Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk”
Film-goers can travel to a variety of scenic places from the comfort of Science Museum Oklahoma’s Dome Theater this week during the museum’s annual Film Fest.
The museum’s Film Fest will be Thursday-Sunday and Sept. 18-21, with a Sneak Peek tonight. The event will feature three different IMAX films that showcase the wonders of nature while addressing environmental issues, according to a news release.
“Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk” follows river advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., anthropologist Wade Davis and their daughters as they go on an exciting journey down the Colorado River. Filmed during a four-week river-rafting journey, the explorers investigate the relationship of changes in the Grand Canyon’s ecosystem and the increased allocation of river water to agriculture and populations that has left no water at the river’s end – the Colorado Delta.
“Wildfire” shows the lovely wilderness of Idaho, California and Australia while offering viewers a close-up views of one of the most powerful forces in nature. The movie also shows efforts to contain and combat blazes, from smokejumpers who parachute into blazes to water-bombing helicopters. The film shares the reason some fires are deliberately set and controlled by firefighters to preserve the earth’s natural resources.
A remarkable story of one of the world’s most tenacious species and human’s closest fellow predator, “Wolves” focuses on one of the planet’s most tenacious species and human’s closest fellow predator, sharing intimate and rare footage of the animal’s way of life known only to a handful of scientists. The film demonstrates the important roles numerous recovery-project efforts across the continent and changing attitudes worldwide have played in returning wolves to their natural habitat.
Showtimes for the films vary throughout Film Fest. People can buy a Film Fest pass that includes one viewing of each of the films featured during this year’s Film Fest, plus one viewing of the IMAX film “Stormchasers” through Oct. 31. Film Fest pass prices are $30 each for adults and $25 each for children and seniors.
Tonight’s Sneak Peek allows visitors to see all three films consecutively from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sneak Peek passes are available for $20 at the door. Seating is limited.
