What to do in Oklahoma on Aug. 9
Today’s featured event
Enjoy family activities and learn about the problem of abandoned and abused dogs in Oklahoma at Hawgs for Hounds, a first-time biker-theme event from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Ray Trent Park in Del City. (The park is off Interstate 40, adjacent to the city’s dog park.)
Red Dirt Boxer Rescue, Rocky Spot Rescue, JB’s Legacy, Heartland Great Dane Rescue and Friends With Four Paws are hosting the day-long event.
It will include performances by Rainy Day Six Band and DJ Ember, along with a dog/owner lookalike and other contests, door prizes, face painting, clowns, a moon bounce for the kids and more. Several of the rescue organizations will have adoptable dogs look for forever homes at the event.
Nevaeh’s Run, a poker run dedicated to the memory of one of Red Dirt Boxer Rescue’s rescued dogs, will be one of the highlights of the event. The first bike will go out at 10 a.m.; the last bike comes in at 3 p.m.
