Teen Choice Award winners named, show airs tonight

The 10th annual Teen Choice Awards will air at 7 p.m. today on Fox (KOKH-25 here in Oklahoma City).

The awards, which were selected by more than 30 million votes cast online by teenagers, honor the most popular celebrities in TV, film, music, sports and fashion, according to the Associated Press.

Miley Cyrus, the 15-year-old recording artist and star of “Hannah Montana,” is the host for the star-studded event.

The actual awards ceremony took place Sunday night at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios Hollywood. If you want to wait until tonight to find out who won, please read no further.

And the winners are …

The popular pop trio the Jonas Brothers took home six surfboards and the CW show “Gossip Girl” also won six prizes Sunday night at the 10th annual Teen Choice Awards.

The Jonas Brothers received Teen Choice Awards, which are shaped like surfboards, for choice breakout group, love song, music single, song of the summer, male red carpet fashion icons and male hotties.

Blake Lively, star of the CW show “Gossip Girl,” receives one of her two Teen Choice Awards – for breakout female and TV drama actress. (I’ll have more with Blake Lively later this week as I report on the new movie “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.”)

The soapy show “Gossip Girl” won choice TV drama, breakout show, breakout male actor Chace Crawford, breakout female and TV drama actress Blake Lively and TV villain Ed Westwick.

“American Idol” winner David Cook and runner-up David Archuleta present an award. Cook was honored as choice TV male reality/variety star, while Archuleta received the most fanatic fans prize.

Country music star Carrie Underwood and “American Idol” victor David Cook were among the winners with Oklahoma ties. Underwood, who hails from Checotah, won the prize for red carpet fashion icon female, though she wasn’t in attendance at the event. 

Cook, who grew up in Blue Springs, Mo., but was a Tulsa resident when he won the TV singing contest, received a surfboard for choice TV male reality/variety star for “Idol.”

Teen queen Miley Cyrus hosted the awards ceremony and won awards for both her acting and musical efforts. She won choice music female artist and choice TV actress comedy. “Hannah Montana,” her starring vehicle on Disney Channel, was named choice TV show comedy.

Young R&B singer Chris Brown received five music awards: choice music male artist, R&B artist, R&B track, rap/hip-hop track and music hook-up for his Jordin Sparks duet “No Air.”

Movie star Will Smith was there to accept three awards: He won choice actor horror/thriller for “I Am Legend,” which also won the choice movie horror/thriller prize. His latest July 4 hit “Hancock” was named summer movie action adventure.

Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page was honored as choice movie actress comedy and movie breakout female for “Juno,” which was named choice movie comedy.
