“WarGames” back in theaters Thursday
Return to the far-off days when computers were the size of entire rooms, iPods were unheard of and a super-smart computer taught us all that when it comes to nuclear warfare, ”The only winning move is not to play.”
Yes, the 1983 cyber-thriller “WarGames” is returning to theaters at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a special one-night-only presentation. Though it looks dated now, “WarGames” was a landmark film and three-time Oscar nominee 25 years ago.
The story centers on geeky computer nerd David Lightman (Matthew Broderick), who hacks into a Department of Defense computer named Joshua and starts playing games.
“WarGames” is returning to more than 300 select movie theatres through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network, which a news release calls North America’s largest cinema broadcast network.
The event will feature interviews with the film’s cast and crew, including Broderick, that cover the making of the $79 million box office hit and its relevance in today’s technology-driven world.
The event celebrates the DVD release of the “25th Anniversary Edition of WarGames,” which will include new features such as director and writer commentaries and featurettes.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at presenting theater box offices and online at www.fathomevents.com. You can find a complete list of presenting theater locations and prices at the site.
“WarGames” will show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at two Oklahoma City theaters: Tinseltown USA, 6001 N Martin Luther King Ave., and Quail Springs 24, 2501 W Memorial Road.
