Pixies charm Paseo event

Elves, nymphs, sprites and all manner of whimsical creatures frolicked in the Paseo Arts District Friday night during the annual Midsummer Faerie Ball on Paseo.

Dressed in fanciful costumes and festive outfits, children and adults painted their faces with theatrical makeup, crafted flower crowns and danced among twinkling fairy lights as twilight settled over the arts district. The multigenerational dance company Theatre Upon a StarDanceSwan, which organizes the ball, also performed for the crowd of 350 to 400 participants.

The event celebrates the magic of summer nights, carefree dancing and creative expression, said Oklahoma City musician Steve McLinn, who has performed at every Faerie Ball.

“It’s aimed for children and the child at heart in all of us,” he said. “Everybody becomes one part of a huge celebration, so it’s pretty fun.”
