Here’s a list of some of the big July 4 events going on this weekend in the Oklahoma City metro and elsewhere in the state.

OKC metro:

- “Red White and Boom on the River”: The second annual event will be at the Downtown Airpark, on the south bank of the Oklahoma River.

Gates open at 5 p.m. today, with live music from 6 to 8. The Oklahoma City Philharmonic performs at 8:45 p.m., and of course, there will be fireworks.

On Friday, gates open at 4 p.m. and music starts at 5. The lineup includes Hosty Duo, A.J. Johnson and Why Not, and the Dan Danger Band. Fireworks will go boom from 10 to 10:30, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds will play from 10:30 to midnight.

- Bricktown Independence Day Celebration: It starts at noon Friday at the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma and includes an art show along the Bricktown Canal. Children’s groups will sing and dance beginning at 5 p.m., and a hot dog eating contest will start at 6 p.m. The Oklahoma RedHawks’ game starts at 7:05 p.m. at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, with fireworks following the game.

- Libertyfest in Edmond: The multiday celebration comes to a close on Friday, with the huge parade at 9 a.m. in downtown. The University of Central Oklahoma campus will be the place to go for food, music, rides and games throughout the day. The fest closes with a huge fireworks display at 10 p.m. Friday.

- Bethany’s Freedom Festival: The 50th festival will be at Eldon Lyon Park, 7400 NW 39.  It will start with the Centennial Freedom Run at 7:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., it will continue with The Oklahoman Centennial Parade, beginning at Southern Nazarene University and marching through Bethany to the park.

The festivities also include carnival rides, games, food, live entertainment and a banner signing for U.S. troops. Of course, there will be lots o’ fireworks.

- 33rd Annual Norman Day Celebration: The event starts at noon Friday and includes a sand volleyball tournament, a baby crawl, pony rides, a hot dog eating contest and live music. The fireworks will light up the sky at 9:45 p.m.

- Yukon’s Freedom Fest: The festival starts at 5:45 p.m. today at Chisholm Trail Park, 500 W Vandament, with a tribute to local veterans featuring music by Irv Wagner’s Concert Band.

The event continues all day Friday at Chisholm Trail Park and Yukon City Park, 2200 S Holly. The Cherry Bomb Triathlon begins at 8 a.m. at Yukon City Park. Activities include a parade, children’s play area, a hot dog eating contest and free ice cream and watermelon. The Oklahoma City Philharmonic will perform patriotic music at 8:30 p.m., fireworks will explode into the sky after that.

Outside the metro:

- Tulsa FreedomFest: Live music, children’s activities and food vendors will be set up on both sides of the Arkansas River. Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, with some festivities continuing on Saturday. Most of the activity will center around River West Festival Park, 21 and Jackson, but there will be happenings on both sides of the river. Fireworks will be launched over the water from the 21st Street Bridge from 9:35 to 10:05 p.m.

- I Love America Celebration in Lawton: It starts at 2 p.m. Friday at Elmer Thomas Park with children’s games, skydiving demonstrations, military displays and a 100-piece choir and orchestra performing gospel and patriotic music. Fireworks go off at dusk. For more information, call (580) 536-9325.
