Photo gallery: Tony Awards
Here are some of the moments from Sunday’s 62nd annual Tony Awards, as captured in Associated Press photos:
Nominee Kelli O’Hara, who grew up in Elk City and Edmond, performs a musical number from “South Pacific.”
Oklahoman Megan Mullally, right, and Shuler Hensley act out a bit from the musical “Young Frankenstein.”
Oklahoman Kristin Chenoweth presents an award.
Tulsa native Tracy Letts smiles with his Tony for best play.
The cast of “Grease.”
Richard Griffiths, left, and Daniel Radcliffe, both of the “Harry Potter” films, were presenters because they both are in the play “Equus.”
A special 10th anniversary performance from the wonderful musical “The Lion King” was part of the show.
The cast of “Rent” was honored, as the long-running show is closing this fall.
As host, Whoopi Goldberg donned some pretty zany costumes. Not really a surprise, is it?
The cast of best musical winner “In the Heights” performs.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the music and lyrics of “In the Heights,” is hoisted on his compatriots’ shoulders in celebration.
The always-fantastic Patrick Stewart was nominated for leading actor for, naturally, ”Macbeth.”
Also perpetually terrific, Laurence Fishburne was nominated in that category as well for “Thurgood.” Mark Rylance beat out the heavy-hitters for his roll in the ’60s sex romp “Boeing-Boeing.”
Yep, there can be life after “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Tom Wopat, formerly known as Luke Duke, was nominated for leading actor in a musical for “A Catered Affair.” Alas, the Tony went to Paulo Szot of “South Pacific.”
