5 questions for Keith Anderson
Oklahoma-bred country singer-songwriter Keith Anderson will play at 4:45 p.m. today at the Country Fever Music Festival in Pryor.
Anderson, a former Mr. Oklahoma runner-up, will share the bill with Willie Nelson, whose “Red Headed Stranger” sparked his interest in country music.
Nelson’s performance at 9 p.m. today closes out the four-day festival . For more information, go to www.feverfest.com.
I got the chance to do an e-mail interview with Anderson last week about his Country Fever performance. He shared some of the recent successes he has experienced both as a songwriter and recording artist.
1. Are you excited about sharing the bill at Country Fever with the likes of Willie Nelson, Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, Sugarland, etc.? Have any of the artists on the Country Fever bill been musical influences for you?
Yes, very excited! Of course Willie influenced me as a singer songwriter! Who hasn’t he influenced? Trace Adkins has always been one of my favorites also! I love his song selection. And Dierks, Tracy Lawrence and Sugarland are all great friends so it’s always cool hangin’ with them! Gonna be fun!
2. Please tell me about your style of country music. And what can people expect from your live performances?
People tend to call my style “rockin’ country.” And that’s exactly what people will experience during the live show!! A big ol’ party on stage!
3. Please tell me about your Oklahoma background. Are you living in Nashville now? How often do you get back to Oklahoma to visit and perform? Is it especially exciting performing in your home state? Why?
I grew up in Miami, OK, just down the road from Pryor so I’m really excited to come back and perform. I live just outside of Nashville now, but try to get back home three to four times a year and try to do a couple of shows in NE Oklahoma each year also.
4. What has been the highlight of your country music career so far?
As a songwriter, my highlight so far has DEFINITELY been having Garth and George Jones record my song “Beer Run” (B-Double-E-Double-R-U-N). To have two of the biggest legends in country music record something that you’ve written is the coolest thing!
Having Big & Rich take my song “Lost In This Moment” to No. 1 was pretty freakin’ cool too!
And as a recording artist, my highlight was definitely recording my song “3 Chord Country and American Rock & Roll” with Steven Tyler from Aerosmith! I couldn’t believe he was singing with me, especially something I had written.
5. What’s next for you as far as albums, singles, upcoming performances?
My new CD, “C’MON!”, comes out Aug. 5 and my current single, “I Still Miss You,” about to go into the top 10 on the charts! Lot’s of fun right now.
As far as upcoming performances, go check out my Web site – KeithAnderson.com. I don’t even know where I’m playing next week, so you’ll have to check that on your own! Ha!
