For country stars, Willie’s always on their minds

With stars like Trace Adkins, Gretchen Wilson and Willie Nelson brightening the lineup, the Country Fever Music Festival is known as a star-studded event.

But the Pryor festival also gives Oklahoma entertainers a chance to shine.

Among the homegrown talents on this weekend’s lineup: Jason Meadows and Keith Anderson, Sooner State singer-songwriters who have moved to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue their musical dreams.

“I grew up in Miami, OK, just down the road from Pryor so I’m really excited to come back and perform,” Anderson said in an e-mail interview.

Anderson, who wrote the Garth Brooks-George Jones duet “Beer Run” and the Rich & Rich hit “Lost in This Moment,” will take the Country Fever stage at 4:45 p.m. Sunday. His second album, “C’MON!,” comes out Aug. 5; the first single, “I Still Miss You,” is in the top 20 on the Billboard Country Songs chart.

Meadows, who was raised in Calera and broke out on the TV show “Nashville Star,” will play Country Fever at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

“It’s always the greatest to come back to Oklahoma and play for everyone. This is where I am from and these are my people,” said Meadows, who has notched a pair of hit videos.

The up-and-coming artists said they feel honored to appear on the lineup with some of the genre’s hottest stars, especially that influential “Red Headed Stranger.”

“It’s a dream come true for this Okie to share a bill with Willie Nelson. … I grew up listening to Waylon (Jennings) and Willie. I hope I am still going strong like he is at his age. He is everyone’s hero!” said Meadows in an e-mail interview.
