BAM finds the answers: “Toy Story 3″
In response to a question last week from loyal BAM’s Blog reader 3D, I’ve done a little Web investigation to discover more about the upcoming sequel “Toy Story 3.” 3D asked when the movie was coming out in a comment last week.
The word on the Web (including RottenTomatoes.com and IMDB.com, two of my preferred online movie resources) is that ”Toy Story 3″ is slated to open in theaters on June 18, 2010. It will be in Disney Digital 3-D.
In addition, the original “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2″ will be converted to 3-D and re-released in theaters in advance of the third movie’s bow. The 3-D theatrical re-release of “Toy Story” is set for Oct. 2, 2009, ”Toy Story 2″ for Feb. 12, 2010.
Disney/Pixar head genuis John Lasseter is said to be personally overseeing the 3-D conversion process for the first two “Toy Story” films. He also will serve as executive producer for the trilogy-capping film.
“Toy Story 3″ is still more than two years off, but from the Web reports, it seems that Pixar is taking a page from the “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” book: The filmmakers are allowing the amount time (approximately, anyway) that has elapsed since the first “Toy Story” came out in 1995 to be reflected in the plot of the upcoming sequel.
According to various online sources, “Toy Story 3″ will find Woody, Buzz and their other toy friends dumped at a child care center after their owner, Andy, goes off to college.
If that does indeed turn out to be the plotline, it seems to pick up on a logical story thread from 1999’s ”Toy Story 2,” in which Woody met Jessie the cowgirl, a toy who had already been cast off when her first young owner outgrew childish things.
The plot sounds a bit sad, but it will be great to see a new adventure with Woody, Buzz and the rest of their talking toy friends.

Thanks for the answer. Although I’m afraid I’m going to have to start saving money now for the summer of 2010. If you start adding it up, there’s an awful lot of movies opening then. I think it’s because of the strike moving things around. Then again, if there’s an actor’s strike this summer, that may change.
