Golden Trailer winners named
The top movie previews of the year were recognized Thursday night at the ninth annual Golden Trailer Awards. Comedian Sinbad hosted the awards show at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
The awards were handed out for 16 Golden Trailer categories. You can see the list of the nominees and winners in all 53 categories at www.goldentrailer.com.
The public now has the opportunity to vote on the Golden Trailer’s top honor, Trailer of the Year. Voting is open from today through Wednesday. People can log onto www.goldentrailers.usatoday.com to pick their favorite and cast their vote for Trailer of the Year. Thirteen of winning trailers in the 16 spotlight categories are eligible for the top prize; the Golden Fleece, Trashiest Trailer and Best Video Game Trailer are not in the running.
The winner will be announced in a national primetime broadcast titled “The Movie Preview Awards,” which will air May 26 on MyNetworkTV.
Created in 1999 to “celebrate the art, craft and fun of movie promotion,” the Golden Trailer Awards have become the top prize in the movie marketing business. They also are fun for movie audiences: In recent years, trailers have become their own popular form of entertainment, ranking as the No. 3 category of the about 10 billion videos viewed online each year, according to a news release.
