The song that has been on my brain the most this week:
- “Black Ladder,” Patti Scialfa, from the 2007 album “Play It as It Lays.”
Mrs. Bruce Springsteen gets vulnerable on this achingly lovely ode to longtime love. It is the closing track of her third solo album, and the gently bluesy music (Mr. Springsteen played organ, guitars and harmonica on the disc.) and Scialfa’s husky, intimate vocals will drift through your head long after the CD changer has moved on to another disc.
