I taught at Emerson Elementary 1966-1967 right after college. I was in awe of the history of the building. I was too young to really appreciate it, though.
I recall I had many children of Greek families and was brought delicious Greek delicacies. I am with my Mother at St. Anthony's and the location has brought back memories of teaching at Emerson Elem. Is it the same as the now Emerson Alternative?

Excerpts from WW 1 Journal of Otis Leader - 1918
"In conclusion I must say that it isn't enough that angels should weep after the greatest tragedy the world has ever known. That different nations should be showing their teeth more right now than ever. Yet we Americans, while hoping for the best, we are not preparing for the worst."
These words of wisdom written in the trenches by my great uncle Otis Leader during WW1; still holds true to this day. Quote: ..."We are not preparing for the worst."

During a family genealogy search I learned that my grandmother lost two daughters to the influenza pandemic in 1918. They are both buried at Fairlawn. I've often thought about visiting them. Now that I have read your article I know I will go and take pictures, especially of the angel. Thank you,
