Surfer Todd Endris was doing his regular routine of catching a wave when a shark attacked him at Marina State Park off Monterey, California. As the man-eating fish was taking a bite out of Endris’ side, a group of dolphins came to his rescue! Was the surfer already good pals with the dolphins? Nope, they just decided to be good Samaritans. The debatable faux fish formed a protective ring around Endris so he could get to shore. As Endris was swimming with the dolphins a fellow surfer, who’d made safely it to the beach, prepared to take it from there. Which he did and is credited for saving Endris’ life.
There have been reports of dolphin rescues for centuries. Why do they help humans? No wonder we love dolphins so much! I have a new respect for our finned friends, that’s for sure. It just goes to show you, caring for others crosses all barriers. No matter if you’re a fish or a human – we should all lend a helping hand.
